Born on February 27, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, Joshua Winslow Groban is an American singer whose music encompasses pop, classical crossover, and vocal genres.
Groban's father is of Russian-Polish Jewish descent, while his mother is of Norwegian ancestry. In 1985, Groban's younger brother, Christopher, was born.
Groban attended Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan for musical theater from 1997 to 1998, where he studied under voice teacher Seth Riggs.
In 1998, Riggs gave a cassette tape of Groban singing "All I Ask of You" from "The Phantom of the Opera" to producer David Foster. Foster was impressed and invited Groban to perform the song at California Governor Gray Davis's inauguration concert in January 1
